Vercingetorix

Vercingetorix
was one of the best Gallic warlords.  He beat Julius Caesar at the seige of Gergovia (La Roche-Blanche in Puy-de-Dome, near Clermont Ferrand).   in September 52 bc and lost the same year at the siege of Alesia (Alise-Saint-Rennes, Cote D'Or, near Dijon).

 He surrendered to Julius Caesar

and was taken to Rome where he was imprisoned for six years before being ritually strangled.

  1. Great blog... I'll book mark it to find out the next installment. I was in Berlin last week and the Brandenberger Tor has a statue of a Quadriga chariot on top, It was something the tribes of Germananica used against Rome... and Napoleon nicked this statue of it... and took it to Paris. But then the Prussians stole it back... during the following war... they just kept having wars.
